Medieval Fayre

I’ve wanted to attend the annual Medieval Fayre for years, but Murphy has conspired on successive occasions to thwart my desires. This year my turn finally arrived and I donned a 15kg outfit (dressing the part is important) and joined a group of like-minded individuals at the Inanda Country base to experience the magic.

So many different and interesting stands greeted me, with incredible necklaces and general medieval-inspired bric-a-brac that would pauper many a rich king.

Jesters, knights and a town crier or two lined the streets of the fayre, encouraging peasants to participate in the many activities which included archery, sword fighting and pelting an undesirable with over-ripe tomatoes.

A crowded and fun-filled day culminated in a mighty battle, the eternal fight of good versus evil – who would carry the day? Honestly, having witnessed the battle I still don’t know. It was entertaining and a series of hilarious mishaps and some rather terrible ham acting made for a good show.

I can recommend this event, a rollicking adventure down the twisty path of yore. Breathe some of that medieval air and journey back to a simpler time.
